In honor of Memorial Day yesterday we’d like to share a photograph from a Memorial Day nearly a century ago, when the Military Band gathered on May 30th, 1927 in a West Townsend cemetery to remember those who had fallen in service of our country. We’re thinking this must be Riverside Cemetery where our friend Lee McTighe provided a fascinating historical tour last fall, does that seem correct, Lee?

Townsend has seen brave members of our community in the military as far back as the French and Indian War, through the American Revolution, the Civil War, both World Wars, and into modern times, many of whom sacrificed their lives so that so many others could be safe and free. We keep them in our memories and our thoughts always.
